Hinatuan river: Enchanted ever after

THE MYSTERY behind Hinatuan Enchanted River’s source is left to the brave or superstitious. The rest of us will be left distracted with its bluest color. Most of us will be lured to at least take a dip.

Maybe part of the rivulet’s charm is attributed to it being a delta, whose push and pull of tides changes its colors down the line and makes for a unique bathing experience.

On one end, the Pacific Ocean traces its saltwaters into the stream. At the cul de sac, locals say the freshwater springs out from an 85-ft deep underwater cave. Now, depending on who dares to come in, the portal is believed to be the opening of two worlds—mystical or scientific. Locals say expeditions of both kinds remain incomplete.

Meanwhile from the surface water, our derring-dos are limited to splashes, silly gram-able poses, and dips into the brackish water. Here we feel the cold current on our faces and warm waters on our feet.

The difference is palpable and wonderful. Thankful to push this trip through with houzzies Jaymee and Ninya, along with Nin’s brother Louie.

Now heading home, I feel recharged and refreshed to the core. ###
